The Al Hosn Palace is the oldest building in Abu Dhabi- the capital city of UAE. People in UAE refer to it as the Old Fort or the White fort (because of the palace being painted white after renovation). Many reviews on the Al Hosn Palace complain that there are no tour guides at the palace to tell the story of this place. Tour guides or not, it’s better to be prepared and do your own research before you visit the palace.
Back in the year 1761, a tower had been built to defend the only fresh water supply of the town. This tower was later extended to become the permanent residence of the ruling sheikh. Till 1966 this palace remained as the royal seat of the government.
Al Hosn Palace also known as Qasr Al Hosn is the main landmark in Abu Dhabi. The renovated white building now has a park, a watch tower as well as a mosque. The interiors of the palace have been heavily modernized with magnificent tile work. The Al Hosn Palace has now started housing the Cultural Foundation that runs the Documentation and Research Centre. Weapons, traditional artifacts and photographs have also been kept on display inside.
The number of tourists visiting this place has been increasing daily ever since the renovation had been completed. Visit the Al Hosn Palace on your full day Abu Dhabi tour via One World Travels. Apart from the Al Hosn Palace, our Dubai Tour Company also takes you through Abu Dhabi’s fish market and dhow wharf which still resembles the old, pre-oil Abu Dhabi.
